Hurray! The snow is almost gone! Just the way I like the snow. A lot of it comes down, it stays for a few days and then it melts and is gone; and not a moment too soon. I ate the last of the food today, which means I have to go grocery shopping tomorrow. I haven't weighed myself but I have a feeling I've gained at least a couple of pounds.

My car was parked right across the street and every day since the snowfall last Saturday, I’ve been looking out of the window at it, the poor thing, buried beneath a mound of snow. Sunday I couldn’t even see it. At first I thought it was gone because I’d forgotten exactly where I’d parked it and the only part of it that was visible was a tiny bit of the rear bumper. But, lo and behold, after a few days of above average warmth, there is not one bit of snow on my car. It was parked perfectly because today was the first day that I had to move it because of alternate side parking. And there was a parking spot right across the street so I didn’t even have to drive it far; just make a u-turn and pull into the spot directly across the street from where I started out. I might even have it washed tomorrow.

I’ve decided to hire an intern. I put an ad on Craig’s List and got some responses and am interviewing a few people on Monday. Hopefully, by Tuesday I’ll have hired somebody and will have some help with all of the work that I have before me. I’ve been getting a lot of great responses to the CD and with help, I’ll be able to send out even more and really start making things happen.

I’ve started back practicing my French today, preparing for my trip to Paris in the Spring. I’m really looking forward to that. I think they’ll love my music over there. And how romantic that will be! Paris in Springtime. Of course I’ll take my guitar and play in the train station there. I’m sure the acoustics will be wonderful. A couple of times when I was really broke, I played in the train station here in New York. I chose the 6th Avenue line (the F train) at the 23rd Street station because there’s a wall separating the uptown and downtown sides, so you can’t hear the trains when they come on the other side. Also, they run pretty regularly, approximately every ten minutes, which means I got to perform two full songs between trains. And I loved the acoustics at that station.

A week or so before I did the train station, I’d gone to a production company and played some of my music for them. They seemed really excited at the prospect of working with me and promised to contact me to set something up. One of the people from the production company saw me playing in the train station and she seemed mortified and looked at me as if I’d grown an extra head or something. They never called me and didn’t return the two calls I I made to them, and I’m almost certain it was because of my playing in the train station. I couldn’t understand why they looked down on that. To me, it’s better than office work or waiting tables. The way I saw it, I could stay at home and practice my craft and still be broke, or I could go play in the train station and, in addition to getting in some practice time, I could also make some money. I didn’t do too badly money-wise either and if things slow down again and I find myself strapped for cash, I’ll feel no shame at all in playing in the train station again.

Tomorrow is laundry day. I have one more pair of clean undies left for tomorrow, so I have to wash clothes. I was planning to do that today but the elevator wasn’t working and I couldn’t get down to the laundry room. There were four trucks outside all day from Con Edison and we had no lights in the hallways of the building. I don’t know what was going on but I’m glad the lights are back on.

Valentine’s Day was pretty uneventful. About four years ago, I bought a card that I thought was really cute and funny and I’ve been holding onto it all this time, waiting for someone to give it to. Maybe next year…

There are little green sprouts coming up in my window box and buds on the trees in front of the bank, which means Spring is right around the corner. I can hardly wait!

More soon...

PREVIOUS JOURNALS

Snow - I have about five days’ worth of food, and I’m prepared to hibernate until the snow melts. My car is parked across the street but I don’t know which mound it’s under. It was kind of nice being home alone and doing whatever I wanted to without having to answer to anybody or even speak to another person. I turned off the ringer on the phone and just spent some time with myself. More...

Guero's - I just got in from Guero’s. What a night. First off, it turns out they didn’t have a PA system, a amp, a microphone or microphone stand so I had to pack up all that stuff and take it with me. I lugged it all a block and a half to where I’d parked my car Monday evening and when I got to the parking spot where I’d left my car, my car was nowhere to be found. More...

MTV Comes - The MTV folks came and went Monday. It was all quite fun. I was up and dressed by the time they arrived at 9:00 AM. “We have to film the entire day,” they said and they made me put my pajamas back on and get back into bed. Then they filmed me getting out of bed, going into the kitchen and having my first glass of water for the day. They wanted to film that twice so I had to drink two large glasses of water before it was all said and done. More...

MTV- I sent off a CD and letter to MTV for their Made series. Sunday afternoon I got a call from them saying they want to film me for their “A Day In the Life” series. More...

Insulted - I got a call from a woman today who books acts at a café in Montclair, New Jersey. She wanted to know if I was interested in performing a short set of about 3 or 4 songs at her café on Tuesday. Not only was she not offering to pay me but she wanted me to buy an entrée while I was there. I was highly insulted. More...

January 13, 2006- I’ve been in bed all week with the flu. Not my idea of the best way to start off the new year but I suppose it could be a lot worse. As a matter of fact, I feel almost completely better. Just a little tickle in my throat, which means I won't be going to the movies over the weekend and making everyone in the theater hate me because I'm coughing every few minutes. More..

Woodstock- I’m so over New York. I went up to Woodstock for Thanksgiving and I loved it so much I’m ready to pack up my stuff and head north.
The guitarist from my band days, when Columbia Records was footing the bill, has stayed in touch me and we were planning to get together and work on music over the Thanksgiving weekend. He has a house in Woodstock and invited me up for the holiday weekend. We didn’t really work on music but we spent a lot of time socializing and partying, which was a lot of fun and something I hadn’t done in a while. Unfortunately I partied a bit too much Friday night and wound up hugging the toilet at the local watering hole but the booze genie was kind and I awoke Saturday morning without even a trace of a hangover, ready to party again Saturday night.

November 18, 2005- I just got in from a temp assignment. They didn’t really have any work for me to do. I printed out one letter and answered about five phone calls, which was fine with me. I took plenty of paperwork with me, so I got to categorize and enter tons of receipts. I worked there on Wednesday as well, so I knew what to expect today. I also spent a lot of time on Craig’s List responding to postings and listing my upcoming show on several musician sites. More...
