One of my MySpace friends invited me out to see his show in Redondo Beach. I went down with a couple of friends and we were all glad we went because it was so much fun! At first I was a bit reluctant to go because it was listed as a "burlesque" show. I didn't quite know what that means but assumed it meant scantily clad women sashaying about, which is exactly what it meant. But it was a lot of fun and my MySpace friend's band was great!
The night was called "Bongo Fury" and I can't think of a better name because the percussionists were doing some frenzied playing and really working up the audience! My friends wound up getting caught up in the excitement and I of course whipped out my camera and documented it!

All in all, a good time was had by all!

I got to hang out a bit after with my new MySpace friend. He's going to be doing the Bongo Fury show at Harvelle's in Santa Monica as well. I'm planning to take some friends since it's right near where I live.

Thursday, March 6, 2008

The weather's finally gotten better and I've been zipping around town in my new (old) Saab with the top down. One day, as I was sitting at the light, a man ran up to the car and threw his business card in. "Call me," he shouted as he dodged traffic to return to the safety of the sidewalk, "I'm doing a student film!" Just in case I'd forgotten I was in LA.

The show at The Derby was great! The new band kicked butt!
Unfortunately, the sound wasn't the greatest at The Derby and I don't know that I'd want to perform there again, but it was a great jump-off point for the new band.

My plan was to relax on Thursday leading up to the show. The forces that be had other plans. I made some soup and decided at the last minute to put some frozen corn in it. When I opened the freezer to get the corn, I discovered that everything was melted! I then discovered that the entire refrigerator had just broken down. So the two hours leading up to my show, instead of being spent relaxing, were instead spent cooking as much food as I could from the fridge, most of which would up being eaten by the band after the show.

I'd been fighting the flu all week and the show Thursday night (and the pizza I had after) pushed me over the edge. I should have gone right home and gotten some rest after the show was done but instead I stood outside in the cold night air and chatted (and ate) with the band and some friends who came out to see the show. I must have talked for over an hour. I woke up Friday with the full blown version of the flu.

I'm hoping to be all better by tomorrow, as I have a couple of meetings set up which will be difficult to participate in if I'm not fully recovered. So that means it's into bed early tonight!

More soon...
