Daughter of the Sun

Journal

Monday, March 7, 2005

I played hookie from work again today. It's getting harder and harder to go into the office these days. Once I'm there, I'm fine but getting there is where the difficulty lies. It was such a beautiful day today that I just couldn't go and stay indoors all day. Not that I wound up spending the day outside in the sunshine anyway as it turned out. I went to the Department of Finance to take care of my parking tickets and didn't get out of there until after four o'clock in the afternoon.

Sam is pimping my ride up in Yonkers. He's a wizard with Saabs. I can't wait to get my baby back on the road again. The last time it rained really hard, I had GW in the car and she had her umbrella up because the rain was pouring in through the sunroof onto the passenger seat. It was quite embarassing, needless to say. That's one of the things that Sam is repairing of course.

It was nice to get home while it was still light outside. The first thing I did was pick up my guitar and practice for half an hour. (Actually, the first thing I did was turn the oven on and heat up the last pieice of apple pie.) It felt good to be playing and singing after my brief hiatus. My voice feels really strong and clear. Amazing what not being around smoke can do for one's vocal chords.

GROT took some really amazing photos. There will be at least a few I can use for my press kit. I'm going to post some on my site next week. GROT is going to burn me a CD with the photos on it so I can pick and choose which ones to use on the site. It was fun taking photos wit GROT. He had me put all this black stuff around my eyes and a light shade on my lips -- something I would never have done myself -- and miraculously it was a great effect.

I'm re-recording Cool Rain. Just guitar bass and drums, with vocals of course. I like the way it's coming along. The music is just about done. I just have to do the background and lead vocals. I've decided that I'm going to take the production to someone else's studio to do the lead vocals and to do the final mixing, so that I'll have another pair of ears for one thing, and so that I'll have someone's help who's more versed in mixing and engineering than I am.

Tomorrow evening I get together with FFF to start working on a couple of songs. If a major snowstorm doesn't hit again, that is. It's in the forecast, starting at about noon on Tuesday. I HATE WINTER!

Saturday I stayed indoors all day and worked on music. I didn't answer the phone or talk to anyone (except ADD of course). It was great. I got so much work done. I started working as soon as I got up and only took a break to make something to eat; then got right back to work again. I worked up until about 1:30 in the morning. I'm going to do that again next Saturday. Such a feeling of accomplishment.

ADD and I ate like pigs up in here on Saturday. She found a recipe in the Sunday Times for roast chicken that involved making a paste with butter, bread crumbs, preserved lemons, fresh rosemary leaves and minced onion and then slathering the paste under the skin of the chicken and roasting it in the oven for an hour and a half. By the time the bird was done we were both salivating. There was nothing left of that poor bird by the time we were done with it.

More soon...
