Daughter of the Sun Journal Saturday, April 30, 2005 I'm in North Carolina, vising SS. The temperature got up to 76 degrees today. It rained earlier but I didn't care. I had on my flipflops with cargo pants and a teeshirt. Tomorrow will be more of the same, minus the rain. What could be bad? I could almost live down here. I wanted to bring my guitar but I would have had to check it at the airport and there was no way I was going to do that. I still managed to get some music work done though. I sent off an application today to sing at a folk music festival in July, uploaded a new version of Cool Rain and did some research to find more festivals online. I also tracked down a production company I worked with a few years back. I started my workshare. My work partner went in three days last week and I only worked two, which is how I was able to finally finish Cool Rain. It was so great to be able to stay home a couple of days and work on music. Made me hungry for more. I plan to take a couple of days off this coming week. Gael is in from France. He's going to put together a much better and exciting website for me while he's here. I'm really excited about that. He says he only needs one afternoon. He showed me some other sites he put together and I was quite impressed. I know exactly what I want. I just don't have the technical wherewithal to make it happen. I wasn't crazy about the way the photos came out that my neighbor took. ECB said I look like the crazed women in the old slave rebellion movies who wound up going nuts and burning down the slavemaster's house and killing everybody. Or a crackhead. She's right. The black lining under the eyes was not working at all for me. Oh well. If at first you don't succeed... I went to Craigslist and contacted some of the photographers who posted their services there. Some of the had links to their work and a few of them did very good work so I contacted them about setting up a shoot. The one whose work I liked the best charges five hundred and fifty dollars for a session but if I come out of it was a photo that i absolutely love, it will be worth it, although I'm supposed to be saving up for my trip across country to Los Angeles at the end of the summer. Wednesday night I'm invited to go to Joe's Pub with a woman I met at the Black short film festival Thursday night but I promised ECB I would drive up and attend her last handbells concert. Although I really want to see the concert, I'm not looking forward to the 6 hour drive up and back. I wonder if she would be too disappointed ifi I didn't go. MRMCS invited me to go to a biker convention on Sunday, "You have just the right kind of black leather pants that would look good on the back of my motorcycle," he said. "Surely you've got plenty of trashbuckets better suited for that job," I said. He's always got a line of women waiting, hoping... He shouldn't have any problem filling that seat on his bike. Just not with me. I went to Ida Mae's with DYD on Saturday night. The food was good but the waitstaff didn't have a clue. We had several people waiting on us. One guy, after screwing up the drinks twice, said, "I'm not supposed to be doing this anyway. I'm just doing someone a favor." Spare me the details. At those prices, I just wanted service with a smile. We had a late dinner and by the time we were done eating, they had cleared all of the tables from the center of the room and began playing loud hiphop music. We could barely hear ourselves talk, so we left. I drove DYD home to Brooklyn. I went inside for a little while to hear some new tracks he'd been working on. He's a really good guitarist but he always says he's jealous of my playing because I can sing at the same time. I guess nobody's ever satisfied with their own performance. I headed home at about 2 AM, fell into bed and slept like a log. Next weekend I'm going to stay in and work on music all weekend long If the weather's absolutely beautiful, I may go out for a brief period of time but otherwise I'll be indoors working. Gotta get this music done. More soon...
