Daughter of the Sun Journal Saturday, September 24, 2005 Summer officially ended on Thursday at 6:23 PM. ECB came into town and we had our annual ice cream cone. She got back from Prague on the 11th but Thursday was the first time we've seen each other since she's been back. We had our cones commemorating Summer and then we sat at an outdoor cafe and had a bite to eat before she dropped me back off at home and headed back out to Long Island. Sharing an ice cream cone moment with ECB was a lot of fun but it was also sad because it means that before long, there's going to be a cold wind blowing and then, horror of horrors, snow will be falling. I've got to think like a squirrel; store away lots of supplies now so that I will not have to go out once Winter hits. I can just stay indoors where it's nice and cozy warm and work on music all day. That of course means I've got to make lots of money now. This has been a really good time for me creatively. I have the beginning of four new songs. I like working on more than one song at a time. This way, when I get stuck with one, I can just go to another one and by the time I've worked on the other one, I can go back to the initial song with a fresh perspective. I went to the East Village Thursday night to see Sonnyboy perform. The music was very exciting but unfortunately it was also very loud. The club was in the basement and the ceiling was very low, which meant the sound was terribly distorted. I would love to see them perform in another venue. In spite of the loudness and the distortion, I liked the music enough to buy the CD, which is really good. I went to a book signing party in Brooklyn one night last week and met quite a few interesting folks, one being a programmer for WBAI. I'd run out of business cards and my printer was on the fritz, so I took some old CDs with me and gave them out. I also took my guitar and sang a few songs at the end of the book signing. The WBAI brother and I got into a conversation about the music business. He gave me his card and said he wanted me to participate in a music business roundtable he's assembling for a WBAI segment. I didn't have cards so I gave him a CD. He sent me an email saying he was impressed with the CD. He also mailed me a book entitled The Future of the Music Business (How To Succeed With The New Digital Technologies). I started reading it a few days ago and it's a really fascinating and informative book. I took the bus home yesterday just so that I could spend more time reading it. This weekend I was planning to stay in and just work on music but Miss P called and invited me to her brother's barbecue in Brooklyn. I have to go because I didn't go to one single barbecue this summer and this is probably my last chance before the cold weather hits. Today is a perfect bike riding day. I'm sorry that I got rid of my bike because I would definitely have taken it out for a toodle. Next week is going to be a busy one for me. I'm auditioning a couple of guitarists, working at the law firm for at least two days, going to Joe's Pub for a CD release party, going to see Shaka Zulu Overdrive (my favorite band right now), developing an idea for a reality show, collaborating on a couple of songs with another artist and working on my own project. Hopefully I'll manage to get some sleep in the midst of all of that activity. I didn't get nearly enough this past week. More soon...
