Daughter

I’m
so over New York. I went up to Woodstock for Thanksgiving and I loved
it so much I’m ready to pack up my stuff and head north.
The guitarist from my band days, when Columbia Records was footing the
bill, has stayed in touch me and we were planning to get together and
work on music over the Thanksgiving weekend. He has a house in Woodstock
and invited me up for the holiday weekend. We didn’t really work
on music but we spent a lot of time socializing and partying, which was
a lot of fun and something I hadn’t done in a while. Unfortunately
I partied a bit too much Friday night and wound up hugging the toilet
at the local watering hole but the booze genie was kind and I awoke Saturday
morning without even a trace of a hangover, ready to party again Saturday
night.
In the midst of all the partying, we did manage to put in some productive
time, however. We put a band together and start performing together at
the end of December, with two shows scheduled in Woodstock. I’m
really excited about the band members. They are all great musicians and
really excited about being part of this whole thing.
I had Thanksgiving dinner at the home of a wonderful couple. The husband
is a bigwig producer who produced hit singles for Pink and similar artists.
I took my guitar of course and regaled everyone with song after all the
eating was done. The husband wants to produce some songs for me, which
would be so cool.
I looked in the local papers up there and for the same price I’m
paying for rent here in the city for my little tiny apartment, I could
be renting a lovely cottage with a fireplace and communing with nature.
I just have to figure out how to bring in an income once I’m up
there and, once that’s done, I’m outta here!
I went to a Peace Corps presentation with ECB yesterday. She’s thinking
about doing that for a couple of years until she figures out what she
wants to do with her life. They showed a 10 minute film and then a PowerPoint
presentation and by the time the question and answer period was done,
I was ready to sign up. If I wasn’t doing the music thing, I’d
definitely do it. It’s a great way to see other parts of the world,
learn a new language and help other less fortunate people at the same
time. All without having to worry about how to pay the bills. But, driven
music maniac that I am, I have to see this through to the end. Maybe when
I’m 65, if there’s still a Peace Corps, I’ll join and
spend my elder years traveling the world, helping others. A lot of miles
to travel between here and there, so I continue to press onward and upward.
TDJ came into town from LA. We had a late dinner the other night and caught
up on what’s been going on with each other. It was a nice little
stroll down memory lane. I’d run across a recording he’d made
for me while he was out on the road with Cyndi Lauper, detailing the rigors
of life on the road. It kept me entertained while I drove the up to Woodstock.
I called him while on the road and he called me a couple of days later
saying he was in New York.
I’m almost finished getting my apartment in shape. I guess I’ll
be done just in time to pack everything up and leave. Such is life!
