Daughter of the Sun

Journal

Friday, December 23, 2005

I can’t believe it’s almost 2006! Where did the year go? I’m further along in some things than I thought I’d be and not as far along as I’d hoped with others. For example, I may have some music placed shortly but I still don’t have my website set up the way I want and I still need to work on how to promote my CD now that I’ve finally selected the songs that are going to be on it.

Also, even though my plan was to have more of a social life, that still has not happened yet, although I did spend a most interesting and enjoyable evening out last Sunday with a man who sells religious books in my neighborhood. He’d invited me out for dinner and a movie and I thought for sure we’d be taking the subway wherever we went or I’d be driving my clunker. Imagine my surprise when he showed up in front of my building in a 2005 Mercedes sedan complete with all the bells and whistles. Who knew selling religious books and artifacts could be so lucrative! I’m happy to report he was a perfect gentleman the entire evening, something that’s much undervalued these days. And even though we didn’t see eye-to-eye on some religious topics, he didn’t try to beat me over the head with his views and we were able to have a very stimulating conversation.

We went to the Whitestone Cinema in the Bronx and saw Aeon Flux. My only comment about that movie is this: If your wish is to see Charlize Theron dressed in black, tight fitting latex outfits, striking poses and doing high kicks, this is the movie for you.

On the music front, I’ve had some positive responses to the music I’ve been sending around and even had a couple of meetings lined up until the transit strike came along and turned everything upside down. Hopefully things will get back on track after the first of the new year. I have quite a few new songs in the can and am working on more. I was offered a job as an in-house producer at a recording facility in Queens but turned them down because they weren’t offering any money to speak of. It was nice to be asked though.

I have work lined up at a law firm next week, which is a good thing. I like working at this particular firm because they never have any work for me to do and I spend the day doing research online and logging my receipts and taking care of my paperwork. Last week I typed up the lyrics for most of my songs.

Once again, the box of holiday cards I was planning to send out are looking accusingly up at me, still unsent. Some people are really good at that sort of thing. I am not one of them. I may write a happy holidays jingle and send it around via email. Hope runs eternal…

I’m already putting together my list of resolutions for the new year. One is to start an exercise routine and actually stick to it. My butt is starting to do scary things and there are drag queens with more cleavage than I have. Another is to figure out a way to put some or all of these clips that someone sent me into a song: dubites

I’m looking forward to 2006, working with my new band, performing out a lot more, enjoying life and the love of family and good friends and, who knows, maybe romance. Keep hope alive…

More soon...
